Program News and Registration Information!

Hello Black Bears!    With school just starting, must mean hockey season isn’t far behind!   The upcoming season will be our best ever!  A lot is happening in our Maranacook Area Youth Hockey community!  See you all soon!

Below are some registration details and new program highlights:

1)  Registration is still open!  You can register by going to our website, completing the forms and mailing them in before October 20.

Our season will start Tuesday, October 20.  Learn to Play will start November 7.

2)  Welcome new coaches!    We are excited to welcome Chip Jones as a Mite program coach!   Chip is currently the High School Varsity Hockey (MWH Hawks) coach and we’re excited for our younger players to have access to his experience.   Also new and helping Chip on the ice will be Seth Lyons and Chris Stanley, both seasoned parents and hockey lovers!  Matt Cain joins our Squirt coaching team as an Assistant Coach.  Matt is an experienced and active hockey player, who after a few teaser sessions last season, has decided to join us!   And of course, we are very lucky to have our other coaches continuing to work with our kids:  Brian Keezer, John Bourque, Lance Boucher, Tim Martin, Jon White, Jason Foster and Shannon Morgan.  We also wish to thank Ray and Angela Braithwood for their several years of dedicated service and wish them well in their decision to not return to MAYHA this season.

3)  New professional skills sessions!

  • We are thrilled to welcome Tanya Quigley to MAYHA!   Tanya will host 8 special skills sessions throughout the season (2 for mite, 5 for Squirt & PeeWees, and 1 Association wide session).   Tanya has been a hockey skating instructor for over 20 years working with players from Learn to Play up through High School.   She works with several hockey organizations around New England and Canada.
  • We are also honored to welcome Alfie Michaud to MAYHA!  Alfie will host a series for goaltending clinics for our current and aspiring goalies!  Alfie is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who played in the NHL with the Vancouver Canucks (1999).

4)  New Programs!  In addition to our FREE Learn to Play Program for the youngest players, and our Tier IV State of Maine Hockey participation, MAYHA will also offer the following new programs this season:

  • GIRLS HOCKEY! This supplemental program, in partnership with the SAM and Central Maine Associations, is for all eligible girls ages.  Informal scrimmages with only girls on the ice.  ~6 events (one per month) and a few away games!
  • “T5” House Program.   This supplemental or standalone program offering those skaters (and parents) an opportunity to get a little less competitive ice experience with a focus on learning to skate & positioning.  Perfect for that “older” player just starting out without feeling uncomfortable!  In partnership with about 8 other Associations, will include up to 10 games, 20 practices (all at KH), a tournament and participation in some of the special skills sessions.

Questions / Comments?   Call Henry Clauson, President or John Bourque, Vice-President.
